Telecommunications and NBN technicians — installation, repairs and maintenance in Newcastle, Maitland and the Hunter
Installation and cabling, maintenance and upgrades, MDF jumpering and phone line repairs for business phone systems and NBN, with 24/7 fault support.
Which technician do you need?
Most calls to us start with a symptom, not a service name. Match yours below and we will send the right technician — or call (02) 4044 2300 and we will work it out with you.
- Internet down, dropping out, or never right since the NBN switch — an NBN technician. See NBN installation and cabling.
- Dead line, crackling calls, or a socket that has stopped working — a phone line technician. See phone line repairs.
- Moving in, fitting out, or adding phone and data points — a registered cabler. See data cabling.
- A shared building, a new floor, or lines that need moving on the frame — MDF jumpering.
- Dead zones, devices dropping off, or one router doing all the work — a WiFi technician. See business WiFi solutions.
- An ageing phone system, a move to 3CX, or a service agreement — maintenance and upgrades.
NBN technicians: where nbn’s job ends and ours starts
nbn co’s technicians work on the network side of the boundary only: the NTD on the wall for FTTP, HFC and fixed wireless, or the first socket on FTTN and FTTC. Everything past that point — internal cabling, extra outlets, the router, the phone system, the WiFi — belongs to the property, and nbn will not touch it. That gap is what our NBN technicians fill. We connect and configure business NBN services, run and certify the internal cabling, add 4G/5G failover so a line fault does not stop trading, and test a slow or dropping connection at the NTD before anyone blames the provider. If your service is with us, we lodge any network-side fault with nbn and manage the appointment; if it is with another provider, we tell you exactly what to report to them.
Registered cablers, not just installers
In Australia, any cabling that connects to the telecommunications network must be installed by a registered cabler. Our technicians are registered cablers, so every Cat6 and Cat6A run, fibre link, patch panel and outlet we install is compliant, tested and documented. Cabling that is failing or undocumented is traced, labelled and repaired rather than replaced wholesale, and you get the test results, not just an invoice.
WiFi technicians for offices, warehouses and venues
A WiFi problem is rarely the internet. It is usually access-point placement, one overloaded router, or consumer gear that was never designed to carry a whole workplace. Our WiFi technicians start with a site survey, then design and install the network on Ubiquiti hardware with remote monitoring, so a dead zone or a failed access point is fixed before anyone has to log a ticket. Staff and guests sit on separate, secured networks from the same access points.
Phone line and phone system faults, 24/7
A dead line costs you customers by the hour, so our support line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week for business customers. Most faults are diagnosed remotely first — a 3CX system, a SIP trunk or a router can often be fixed without a visit — and when a technician is needed we dispatch from Maitland or Newcastle (Wickham). Lines, sockets, handsets, MDF jumpering in shared buildings and the cabling between them are all ours to fix, whether or not we installed them.
Where our technicians work
Our technicians are based in Maitland and Newcastle (Wickham) and work on site across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Cessnock, Port Stephens and the Hunter Valley through Singleton to Muswellbrook. A site visit is a drive, not a dispatch from Sydney, and the team that installs your system is the team that maintains it.
Common questions
Can I book an nbn technician directly?
No. nbn co technicians are booked by your internet provider, not by you. If your service is with SJH we book and manage the visit; if it is with another provider, you call them. For anything past the NTD or first socket — cabling, outlets, the router, the phone system — you need a registered cabler, and that is us.
Do you fix home NBN and phone line faults?
Yes, during business hours: call (02) 4044 2300 and a technician is booked the same way. Home NBN plans are on our residential NBN page. The 24/7 line is for business customers.
Book a technician
Call (02) 4044 2300, log a ticket, or send the fault through our contact page with the address and the symptom. For a fault, tell us what stopped working and when — a photo of the NTD or socket often saves a visit. For a new installation, tell us the number of staff and whether the building is new or occupied.
