Our technicians repair business phone lines, sockets and cabling — call (02) 4044 2300.
Signs of a phone line fault
- No dial tone, or a line that is completely dead
- Crackling, humming or static on calls
- Calls that drop out, or a line that fails in wet weather
- One socket dead while the others work
- An NBN connection that drops out or runs slow — on many NBN connections the internet still arrives over the copper phone line
- A line that stopped working after a move, a fit-out or another trade’s work
What causes telephone line faults
- A damaged lead-in cable — the cable that runs from the street to the building
- Old, dirty or corroded phone line sockets
- An obsolete or corroded MDF, the frame where the building’s lines are joined — see MDF jumpering
- Damaged phone line cables inside the building
How a phone line repair works
We visit the premises, test the line from the socket back to where it enters the building, and find where the fault sits. Faults on your side — sockets, internal cabling, the MDF and its jumpers — we repair. You then get a written report of what we found and anything still to be done. If the fault is on the network’s side, the report says exactly what to tell your provider.
Phone line repairs are booked visits in office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. If your whole phone system or the internet is down, see emergency repairs.
Who fixes a phone line fault — you or your provider?
Your provider and nbn look after the network up to the boundary: the first socket in a single premises, or the MDF in a building with more than one tenancy. Everything past that point — internal cabling, extra sockets, the run from the MDF to your office — belongs to the property and is yours to repair. If your provider has tested the line and told you the fault is inside the building, this is the repair you need.
Phone line repairs by registered cablers
Repairing a phone line is cabling work, and in Australia any cabling that connects to the telecommunications network must be done by a registered cabler. Our technicians are registered cablers. Cabling that is failing or undocumented is traced, labelled and repaired rather than replaced wholesale.
Phone lines on the NBN
Most business phone services now run over the internet, but the copper inside the building is still doing the work: on many NBN connections it carries the internet into the premises, and on older phone systems it links every handset to the system. That cabling is what fails, and it is what we repair. If an ageing phone system is the real cause, we will say so — see business phone systems in Newcastle, Maitland and the Hunter.

Common questions
Do you repair home phone lines?
Yes, in office hours: call (02) 4044 2300 and a technician is booked the same way. Home NBN plans are on our residential NBN page.
Can you repair a line you did not install?
Yes. Lines, sockets and the cabling between them are ours to fix, whether or not we installed them.
What if the fault is in the phone system, not the line?
We repair those too, any make. If the system is down now, see emergency phone system repairs.
Book a phone line repair
Call (02) 4044 2300, log a ticket, or send the details through our contact page. Tell us the address, what stopped working and when, which sockets are affected, and whether your provider has already tested the line. A photo of the socket or the MDF helps us arrive with the right parts.
